This tour offers a great way to visit Athens’ main historical places including the temple of Poseidon at Cape Sounion, all in one day!
The day begins at the sacred rock of Athens, the Acropolis. Admire the famous ancient temple dedicated to goddess Athena, the Parthenon. As you walk through Acropolis’ gate: the Propylaea, meet the Caryatides at Erectheion (the female statues supporting the temple dedicated to goddess Athena and god Poseidon), also see the temple of Athena Niki (the victorious Athena.
As we visit the New Museum of Acropolis, we get to experience how Athenians lived 2500 years ago inside the walls of Acropolis and around it. The top floor (Parthenon Gallery) offers a 360-degree panoramic view of the Acropolis and modern Athens while the museum has an exhibition space of more than 14,000 square meters (150,000 square feet) and a full range of modern visitor amenities.
Moving on, relax and enjoy the view of the coastal line of west Athens along the Saronic gulf as we cross popular suburbs like Palaio Faliro, Glyfada, Voula and Vouliagmeni, until we arrive at Cape Sounion. The ancient temple dedicated to the god of the sea Poseidon built on top of a steep cliff at the edge of the Mediterranean sea offers a breathtaking and unforgettable view.
We will have our lunch in this mesmerizing scenery before we head back to down town Athens.
Our tour now takes us to the Panathenaic stadium also known as Kallimarmaro. An ancient racetrack, later rebuilt entirely from white marble and dedicated to the modern Olympic games. Continuing on, we go up Lycabettus hill for an eagle’s view of Athens.
Next, we will see the Old Palace and then in Syntagma square watch the changing of the guards in front of the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. Up next, is the beautiful Catholic Cathedral and last but not least the Neoclassical Trilogy of Athens. Namely, the Academy of Arts, the University of Athens and the National Library, all buildings of the Neoclassical ages, imitating famous Ancient Greek buildings’ architecture.
End your full day tour at the heart of Athens, feeling its ever beating rhythm.
